San Mateo Garden
The planting design for this Mediterranean style home features the exotic textures and colors of a tropical landscape, using plants that are well suited to the climate of the San Francisco Bay Area. The tropical effect was accomplished using plants with big bold leaves, contrasting foliage with combinations of glossy greens, variegations, purples and bronzes, and hot-colored flowers. The use of primarily evergreen plants maintains a strong visual impact throughout the seasons, so there is always something of interest in this front entry garden.
